The cold weather is upon us now, and so please can teachers remind the students of the following:

  • Wear coats/jackets etc outside during recess and when going home
  • students to be responsible for looking after their own belongings, including any jumpers, hats, scarves, coats etc… These should be kept inside their own lockers, not on top of them
  • close outside doors to keep the inside warm

Please feel free to use the helping hands (Responsibility) to get this message across. Thanks for your help with this.

Book Week Schedule – Friday, November 18:

  • Red courtyard not available for morning recess (and if raining/red air, not available for lunch recess).
  • Year 1 & 2, please go promptly from lining-up outside at the end of first recess, to upstairs in the gym for the Primary Assembly (10:10am start).
  • Year 3 & 4, snack/recess is indoors and moved forward to 9:50am-10:00am
  • FYI, Year 5 & 6 are staying at RP for lunch (in the gym and courtyard if raining/red air). Thank you, Year 5 & 6 teachers, for the organisation needed to supervise students during their lunch and recess.
  • Primary Assembly in the Gym (may run 5 minutes longer than planned)

We’re doing it just like the old days! Students will be seated on the carpet, Year 1 at the front, followed by Year 2 etc. Thank you for keeping an aisle space in the centre.

  • Primary Parade

Each Year 1 to 4 year-level, to sit along each of the red courtyard walls, like last year. 1A start the parade with one loop around the courtyard, then outside via the door opposite 1C. If the weather is fine, students will continue to parade up around the Year 5 & 6 students, back in the door near the office, into and around the courtyard, back to their seat. 1B, 1C etc to follow, through to Year 6.

  • Livestream photography

All ECE & Primary co-teachers, if it is raining or red air, thank you for gathering your class together briefly in the red courtyard, after your class PCR test. The livestream photographer will take some brief, informal photos of groups. The aim is for fun, casual photos and to move-on. If it is not raining, the photos will happen outside the front steps, near the circular flower bed, after PCR testing. The livestream photography will continue during both parades.

  •  Class photos in costume

Don’t forget to take your own class photo of you and students in costume. Always useful for Year Book pages! Thank you for uploading your best student photos from the week (especially reading in pyjamas, buddy reading and costumes), onto Teams (ECE & Primary Teachers>School Life & Events>Book Week).

Message from Year 4 – **Calling all Performers**

Year 4 will be starting a unit on playscripts and we were wondering if any teachers had a secret/hidden/outspoke/active talent for or experience in acting on the stage and would be willing to do a 5-10 minute presentation on “must-haves” for budding actors (Year 4 students). Please email Ginger or Suzanne if you would be up for this and we will work out a time to have you. We will start this in Week 14. Brava!

Primary October Progress Reports 2022

Good Morning!

Preparation for the October Progress Reports commence this week.

We have attached the Progress Report Instructions outlining expectations and the timeline to support you in completing these reports. For this report, teachers across all subjects will be asked to provide an effort grade for each of the Approaches to Learning (ATL) Criteria.

Progress-Report-Procedures-Oct-2022-23

Please make note of the following points:

  • EAL teachers please make note of the timelines set and pass comments directly to class teachers. These will be combined with the general comment.
  • Specialists teachers are asked to share any comments necessary for students directly to teachers as this can provide a good picture of how the child is or is settling in for parents.
  • Moderation of effort marks is also scheduled into the timeline.
  • There are sample comments in the guidance document for teachers to review, however to support our new teachers or those that are new to the year level, I would like to ask teams to please share some comments as examples amongst your team. This can be organised through the year level leader or comments place in your team folder.

Please can we ask the Year Level Leaders to run through the guidelines in your team meetings this week.

If you have any questions, please let Jon or myself know.

Being prepared for e-learning

As you would have heard, there have been some Covid cases in and around Shanghai in recent weeks. We of course do not know what the situation will be like in a few weeks’ time, but we just wanted to remind all teachers to make sure that they are fully prepared for  e-learning should it be required after the holidays. Please ensure you are familiar with the e-learning plan in the case that full or partial e-learning is required. Please also take your laptops home with you during the summer or on your travels in the case that you have to do e-learning at home, as there is always a possibility of compounds/hotels being placed in quarantine, as was the case recently. Very much hoping of course that everything is smooth, but it is always good to be prepared.

Just as a refresher, please ensure you have read through the following guides and booklets:
