Here are some websites that review children’s books and list recommended books, including links to the highly regarded children books awards- the Newbery and Caldecott:

Booktrust Childrens Books http://www.booktrustchildrensbooks.org.uk Includes discussions on what is happening right now in the world of children’s publishing. Includes helpful reviews, current author interviews and downloadable book guides.

The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by a division of the American Library Association (ALA), to the most distinguished American picture book illustrator of the previous year.

The Newbery Medal, is awarded each year by the American Library Association (ALA) for the most distinguished American children’s book author of the previous year.

Notable Children’s Books – This site of the ALA recommends high quality and creative chapter and picture books for each current year. Books include fiction, information, poetry and pictures of interest for children up to 14 years old.

Reading Rockets: Launching Young Readers a first stop resource for early literacy for parents and teachers of young readers.

The International Children’s Digital Library: It’s free to become a member of this site. You can choose from picture books, fairytales and non-fiction books, among others. Select the age-range and language you would like and enjoy the original books scanned as jpeg documents- requires good eye-sight though.
