Congratulations on Student Led Conferences!

Dear all,

Congratulations on the success of Student Led Conferences. We did it! We have had lots of wonderful comments from parents! This really all comes down to the fantastic work done by all our teachers in preparing our students to present confidently and talk about their learning and lead their parents through each of the stations. The support from our supervising teachers, specialists and office staff allowed the afternoon to run as smoothly as possible. Thank you to everyone!

As with all events, reflection and feedback is very important. Can I please ask that leaders collate the parent feedback from each of their classes and pass this to me when we return. It is also important that I receive feedback from each team so that we can work towards making any adjustments and changes for next year. As it is the last day, I would encourage everyone to jot some notes down for themselves and ask year leaders to  add this as an agenda item for Week 29.

Congratulations again! The week off is well-deserved:)

Final Notes/Reminders for SLCs – Wed. 27th March

Good Morning,

Firstly, congratulations to our Year 6 team for a successful SLC last Thursday! The students did a wonderful job taking their parents through each of the centres. Both Sissy and I had the opportunity to be in classes and it went extremely smoothly.

For our younger students, I am sure they are excited about the coming SLCs this week. Below are some final reminders about the logistics of the day.

Timeline

I have added the remaining timeline  for you to take note of final preparations.

Schedules

Office staff are calling the remaining parents that have not signed up. Once this has been finalised, Karen will send out these schedules. I will contact teachers who need a ‘surrogate’ and what session they will be attending. A leader will be attending one of these sessions. If a parent hasn’t arrived, one of the class teachers can begin the session until the parent gets there.

Duty Roster

Due to changes in the schedule for this day, mainly our lunch and lunch recess times, we have had to amend the duty roster. Specialist and EAL teachers will be taking on these duties while class teachers prepare the classrooms. Please see the amended roster attached below. At least one class teacher is to eat lunch with their students in the cafeteria for that day. If it is a red air day, then unfortunately they must stay in class with some quiet activities on the mat.

Pick-up Arrangements

For those students whose parents have chosen option B ( only for those being picked up at the end of the day), I have attached a pick-up note for you to send home. Please be aware that parents may change their mind and want to take their child home. If this is the case, teachers must inform supervisors when they drop of the returning group. This will allow them to keep account of who they are dismissing. If it is a bus student, one of the supervisors will email Renee Bu in the office to let her know.

SLC Logistics

Below I have attached the logistics for the day. Teachers have asked when will they have time to set up. I would suggest that you have everything prepared and ready to go the day before. While one teacher has lunch with the class, the other teacher is setting up the centres.

Finally…. please can you also take some time to tidy your rooms; making sure the space looks neat and tidy and room for people to move about. Locker areas also need to be tidied up. It has been great that people are updating their display walls at the front of their classrooms. If you still have your CNY displays up, it is important that these are updated with current work.

Thank you again for your hard work and preparations in planning for this important event.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Student Led Conferences 16-17 Goal Setting

As beginning of year assessments and progress reports have been completed, teachers would have in mind areas of development that each student can work on for the year ahead. Therefore, we would like to begin working with our students to develop some goals for them to work through during the year. These goals will be shared with parents in the coming weeks. Later in the year, students will also have time to reflect on the progress of their goals during the Student Led Conferences.

Student Goal Setting

Please see our guidelines below. Year Level Leaders, a reminder to please add this agenda item to your meeting this week. Please go through the Student Goals sheet and discuss and share ways in which teachers can assist students to keep track of their goals, and ensure that they are not put away and forgotten about. Some successful ideas would be great to share.

  • Teachers and students work together to set goals commencing Week 9.
  •  Students in lower Primary may need assistance selecting goals, while upper Primary should be able to do this on their own.
  • Students will be asked to set academic goal(s) from any subject area and a separate goal for ‘Helping Hands’. Upper years only will also include a Gobal Goal.
  • Goals are to be shared with parents no later than November 4. If teams wish to share these goals at Parent Teacher Interviews, please feel free to do so however, this is a decision the whole year level needs to make. Once these are completed, a copy can go home for children to share with parents. The original can be placed into the individual student portfolios and upper years the digital portfolios.
  • Year 1: No goals for Semester 1. These will be set in Semester 2A.
  • Year 2-3: 2 goals  (1 academic goal & 1 Helping Hands goal).
  • Year 4-6: 3 goals (1 to 2 academic goal & 1 Helping Hands goal, 1 global goal.)

Attached are the updated SLC Goals Sheet for Y1-3 and Y4-6 and EAL.

Years 1-3 – SLC Student Goals Sheet  2016-17

Years 4-6 – SLC Student Goals Sheet 2016-17

EAL – SLC Student Goals Sheet 2016-17

Any questions, please see the coordinators or your Year Level Leader.

Thanks,

Melissa
