Y4-6 ISA Results – 2018-19

Dear Y4-6 teachers and EAL/LS Teachers,

The ISA reports for individual students have arrived, and we will be distributing hard copies to class teachers this week (EAL and LS teachers will receive a soft copy of all reports). Once you receive the reports, please look through them to identify any results which do not reflect the child’s ability, or that the teacher feels will be of concern to the parents. This will help prepare the teacher and/or leaders for any subsequent parent meetings regarding the results. If you feel that any parents will be significantly concerned by the results, then it would be good to be proactive and arrange a meeting with the parent just prior to them receiving the report  –  in other words, arrange the meeting in the week commencing March 18. EAL/LS teachers will look through their own students’ reports, and discuss results with the relevant class teachers.

Please fill in this template (click here) for just the students where there may be an issue and send to relevant Primary Coordinator  by Monday March 18.  I have listed a few examples below fyi – please read them to get an idea of the issues to look out for.

When you receive the hard copy of the ISA reports, please keep them safe (where students/parents cannot access them) until the date of distribution on March 26. Please do not hand out the reports to students yet. We will pass labelled envelopes out nearer to the date of distribution.

Year groups will meet in their teams to discuss/analyse these results in greater detail. More information will follow regarding this.

If you have any questions or concerns about the reports, then please let me know.

Thanks,

Rob

Mid Year Assessments

The window for Mid-Year assessment is now open. Please find attached the guidelines.

Year Level Leaders, please work with your teams to select a suitable writing prompt for the year level. These should be taken from the APP prompts linked in the guidelines.

A reminder that writing moderation must be scheduled and completed by your team once the written assessment has been completed.

Learning Resource teachers, please contact class teachers regarding any students that may require support during the writing assessment.

MY Assessment Guidelines 2018-19

Please note that the Criterion Scale has also been updated and we have added separate columns for teachers to check off outcomes  for the 3 different testing periods. Please see attached. It is also available on the server at @Teachers Pub/@PRIMARY/Curriculum/Assessment & Reporting/SATS/Criterion Scale/YCIS Adapted Criterion Scale – updated 2017

ISA – Important Information (Y4-6 only)

The ISA tests will take place on Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th September. The following information will be sent home to the Y4-6 parents on Tuesday 18th via the Parent Blog. Please ensure that you read the first letter, as this explains the reasons why the students will be taking these tests.

Please click the links below regarding the ISA arrangements for Y4-5 and Y6. Please read these carefully as there is a lot of important information which you will need to know prior to the tests.

Please see below for students who will not take the tests

On the morning of the tests, you will be given a hard copy of the administrators handbook, which will give precise instructions on the administration of the tests. Please click link below for the soft copy. Please can you take your time to read through this before next week. It contains important information, such as:

  • The test schedule for both mornings
  • Preparation materials needed
  • What accommodations are permissible (non-standard test conditions)
  • Scripts for the test administration

2018-19 ISA Paper Administration Handbook

For sample questions, see below. Please feel free to check these out (the first 2 pages of each sample booklet gives some useful information). Please note that these questions are for a range of year levels. You may choose to give some of these questions to your students as practice (this is not to serve as revision purposes, but just so they are aware of the types of questions likely to receive), but ensure that you only select questions relevant to your students’ age.

Finally, after the tests have been administered, please fill in the Teacher Feedback Survey.

You will be presented with a hard copy on the day of your tests, although the electronic version may be more convenient for you: click link below:

Y4-6 ISA Analysis

In the two weeks following the CNY holiday, Melissa or I will meet with each Y4-6 Western Co-Teacher individually to discuss the class ISA results. This discussion will be based on the class sections of the ISA diagnostic report.

Prior to our meeting, you are asked to fill out a template which will guide the discussion and make the conversation more focused. I will come to each year level meeting this week (Year 5-next Monday) and show you how to complete the template and how to use the interactive diagnostic report.

The template and the diagnostic report are on the RP Network:

smb://10.3.1.1/Teachers/@Teachers Pub/@PRIMARY/Curriculum/Assessment & Reporting/ISA/2017-2018

We have adapted the template this year, and would like you to focus your analysis at a question level.

Please note you need to complete 2 templates: one for reading, one for maths. We will look at writing as part of the wider analysis process.

For reading and maths: identify 2 or 3 questions which were completed poorly: look at the CL Maths, Reading charts, and focus your analysis on these. You are looking for questions where your class compares negatively to the ISA mean. We can discuss this in the meetings.
If you need access to the questions, let me know. We have copies of the papers.

Please have the forms emailed back to me by 2nd March. Once I receive your forms, either Melissa or I will contact you for a follow up discussion.

If you wish to know more about the terminology used in the reports:

Draft PISA 2015 Mathematics Framework (pages 9-12 define the processes, pages 16-20 define the contexts).

Draft PISA 2015 Reading Framework (pages 20-25 define the aspects of reading, p. 16 defines continuous and non-continuous texts).

Thanks,

John
