Campus Lockdown Procedures for NAT – RP Update

The second covid test will take place today at 9am, and we will notify you upon CDC nurses’ arrival. The arrangements will be similar to yesterday, with a few slights changes:

  • The bus drivers and ayis will be tested first as before.
  • To provide more time for the youngest ECE students to arrive and be settled, we will start with the K4 students, followed by K3 and then K2. The Primary students will then go afterwards, starting with Y1. We hope to complete all tests before
  • All tests for children will be done via mouth swab – which is great news.
  • Morning recess may be impacted, depending on how quickly the testing goes. At the moment, please stay inside for morning recess – a leader will inform the year leaders if they are able to go out.
  • Apart from morning recess, class timetables will be as normal for most of today – no need to stay in own classrooms or class bubbles. Chinese, Specialist, EAL, Student Support etc will run as normal. The only requirement is that if a class has a specialist in the morning, they may have to miss part of it due to having the tests done. Class teachers are responsible for taking the students for the testing on time, and ensuring that they have their own test done too.
  • The cafeteria will be open as usual for students to eat their lunch.
  • Any students who are absent today will be followed up by the school office.
  • CCAs (lunch time and after school) will run as normal.
  • Staff will need to generate a new QR code again for today, as each test needs a new code. Please follow same procedures as today – ask a Chinese colleague if need help.

Please note that the CDC nurses will be using the RP reception room today during lunch time, so please keep this free.

Staff and student survey

Procedures for students in quarantine

As per our usual procedures, for students who require just a day (or two) self-quarantine whilst they wait for their second covid test report, then please just send the class and home work via email. For those requiring 2-weeks quarantine, then please arrange live e-learning from today onwards. Depending on how many students are facing 2-week quarantine, we will either supply a Zomo account, or if too many we can arrange Teams (we will assist with this set-up). Please contact a CLT member if you have any questions.

Please see attached the SLCs instructions and guidelines. Take note of the timeline shared within the document to help you with your preparation and planning. Please make sure to CC Andrea and any other pertinent teachers (EAL, Support, Specialists). Also include Lucia should social or emotional support be required. Thank you for your cooperation.

Washroom Behavior – reminder needed

Yesterday, in the boys 1st floor bathroom, the Ayi found that children had been playing with the hand soap – all had been tipped out and used. Tumblebooks subscription – Message from Tania

Tumble Books Library has been resubscribed to this year, but with slightly different login information:

  • Username: ycispudong
  • Password: reads

This database of picture books, chapter books and non-fiction videos can be accessed in two ways: the website version from a computer or the app version from a device.

  • For the website version, go to the link under ‘Reading on the Web’ via the library catalogue: https://pdlib.ycissh.com
  • For the ipad or phone version, install the Tumble Book Library app and make the login details available to students or log-in for them. Please check this is working before you ask your students to use it. In the past, the app version could sometimes require signing-in a couple of times before it worked successfully.

Tumblebooks is a useful database of fiction and non-fiction for ECE children right through to Year 6. The key is selecting the right resources and the right mode (i.e. reading together as a whole-class using the website version works well for younger children, reading independently on an ipad suits older primary students).

Any teachers who would like some advice about which resources are best for their students, can get in touch with me: tania.jordan@sh.ycef.com

Happy tumbling, as they say!

Today is the deadline for receiving KNI money. Student council members will come round to collect the envelopes today (Year 6-please send on the shuttle).

  • Please take the slips and store them safely in your room until after the event.
  • The envelope you send should contain only money – no individual envelopes or slips.

Thanks for your help with this. If you get any late submissions, we will accept them-please bring the money directly to me. You must make sure I know who the money is for so they can be ticked off on the lists.

Art Show – RP

The Art show has now all been set up and is looking fantastic in the courtyard. A couple of points to note:

We would like to keep it open during recesses today (assuming the air quality improves). Please can the duty teachers in the courtyard and class teachers pay particular attention to the following points:

  • Duty teacher – arrive on time, and walk around the area.
  • For safety reasons, please immediately stop any child you see running or playing hide and go seek in and amongst the display boards. If they were to be knocked into, they would most certainly fall over and could cause  injury to anyone on the other side.
  • Many items are tempting to touch, tap or  hold. Please remind students to only LOOK and NOT TOUCH.
  • If students are more interested in playing rather than walking around the art exhibits, then please send them outside to play.
  • Class teachers – please speak with you students at the beginning of the day to ensure that they do not enter the courtyard until the teacher is on duty.
  • Class teachers – please also take your class  to look through the exhibits before  Thursday. This would also be a good opportunity to speak to them about the most appropriate ways to behave when looking at the Art (same as if they were visiting any art gallery).
  • The courtyard will remain closed before and after school – as it will not be possible to supervise during this time.
  • Please remind all children that they will have at the opportunity during the SLCs on Thursday to take their parents to the Art Show.

Sick leave procedures – International teachers

Please ensure you call me if you are needing to take sick leave – please do not rely on Text Message/WeChat to contact me. If you are phoning me in the morning, then please do so between 6.15 and 6.30am to ensure that I have enough time to arrange a supply teacher. Thank you.
