2022 Chinese Culture Week and CNY Celebration Day

We will be hosting Chinese Culture Week for all our ECE and Primary students from Monday January 24 to Friday January 28, 2022. This event is far more than just having fun and celebrating; it will be a great week of cultural-related activities, giving students and teachers the opportunity to experience the joy and excitement of their host country’s culture. It will also allow students to explore different aspects of Chinese culture which will help them gain a greater insight and connection to China. Formal Primary Chinese Language lessons will not run during this week, as the children will be participating in various cultural activities. ECE students will also join this event to gain more experience of the Chinese culture.

Some Highlights of the Celebration Day at Regency Park Campus

  • Whole Primary Assembly – All the Primary students will have a Chinese New Year Theme Assembly in the morning.
  • Dress Up Day and Parade – 2022 “Good Things Come in Pairs Day” – Pairs Dress Up Day will also be held on Friday, January 28 for students and staff. We are inviting everyone to dress up with any Chinese cultural themes, and students can choose one friend and dress similarly or identically. In Chinese saying: good things always come in pairs. Find your peer and be creative!
  • Game Rooms among each Year Level – The function of the games and activities is to fully engage students with the different Chinese cultural themes, including art, handcrafts and games, etc. Students will have the chance to explore various activities in the morning.
  • Watch Performance – This year, the celebration performance will be recorded a week earlier and we will be sending the recording link out on that day afternoon, so that it can be shared with all family members, including loved ones overseas. Students will also enjoy watching the performance while having afternoon tea on Friday afternoon at school.
  • CNY Gift for the Students – Every student will receive a Chinese New Year reusable bag with a small gift to take home.

  • House Activity in P7-8 – Chinese New Year Celebration Day – Y5 & 6 and Secondary students will attend different Chinese traditional sporting games and cultural related activities to win House points. There are four groups of house activities:
  • (1) Traditional and unique Chinese Sports: Treasure hunting, shuttlecock, colorful silk balls and pitch pot, will be played by students.
  • (2) Characters: Making fridge magnets with clay, with each magnet being inscribed with new year blessings.
  • (3) Chinese food: Children will learn to make dumplings and wonton
  • (4)Traditional Culture: Students will create a dark mat boat, Han Chinese clothing and Beijing opera masks

  • 8:15 Y5-6 Departure from CP to RP
  • 8:45 Whole Primary Assembly (Y1-4 Gym, Y5-6 Auditorium)
  • 9:00 ECE Costume Parade (start from Courtyard, then move to the corridor and welcome Primary – K4, K2 and ECE library corridor)
  • 9:30 Primary Costume Parade (Year level by year level; From Courtyard to ECE building, and then walk back to Primary building)
  • 10:00 Games Room in each year level (Y5-6 back to CP)

No morning recess & Enjoy Lunch

  • RR – Watch Performance and enjoy afternoon snack
  • CP – Y5-6 will participate P7-8 CP House Activities (Y5-6 can watch performance at home, parents will also receive link in the afternoon)

We will be hosting Chinese Culture & Chinese New Year Celebration Week for all our ECE and Primary students from Monday to Friday on February 1st — 5th, 2021. This event will be a great week of culture related activities, giving students and teachers the opportunity to experience the joy and excitement of the host country’s culture as well as perform on the last day of the week. Formal Primary Chinese Language lessons will not run during this week, as the children will be participating in various cultural activities. Students will have Chinese Studies Lessons instead.

  • Date: Friday, February 5
  • Time: Regular school time
  • Venue: Regency Park Campus for ECE & Primary Students
  • Y5-6 Students will be transported to and from the Regency Park Campus via school bus. Please note that the dismissal time will remain as normal.

Some Highlights of the Day

  • Dress Up Day

Dress Up day will also be held on Friday, February 5 for students and staff. We are inviting everyone to dress up in Chinese traditional clothes or in red. We will take wonderful staff photos on the day. Live streaming photo will be arranged as well.

 

  • Primary Game Rooms for Y1 to Y4

The function of the games and activities is to fully engage students with the different Chinese cultural themes, including art, handcrafts and games, etc. Students will have the chance to explore various activities in their year level in the morning. All the duties will stay as usual.

EAL/LR/Specialist teachers will support one of the Primary class for the day.

  • Year 5-6 Service Learning with ECE Students Experiencing Traditional Folk Games

ECE students will have the opportunity to play various traditional Chinese games run by the Y5 and Y6 students as part of their Service Learning programme, such as stilt-walking, kicking shuttlecocks, rolling a hoop, diabolo, pitch-pot, book reading to name but a few.

 

  • Performance

The performance will be located in the RP Courtyard from 1:30 to 3:00pm. This year all the ECE to Primary students will be participating in the performances together to celebrate the spirit of Chinese New Year.  We will be live streaming this event, so that the parent community will be able to enjoy the performance in real-time. In addition, we will be sending the recording link members of the school community, so that it can be shared with all family members, including loved ones overseas. Y1 to Y4 students will watch the show in their classrooms, and Y5-6 as well as ECE students will watch it in the courtyard. Y5 & 6 will leave RP around 2:50 PM.

We will be hosting Chinese Culture & Chinese New Year Celebration Week for all our ECE and Primary students at the Regency Park Campus from Monday to Friday on January 13th — 17th, 2020. This event will be a great week of culture related activities, giving students and teachers the opportunity to experience the joy and excitement of the host country’s culture. Formal Chinese Language lessons will not run during this week, as the children will be participating in various cultural activities.

 

This year, for Primary, each year level has their own theme.

Some CCA student groups, as well as parent volunteers and external folk artists, will be participating in the performances to celebrate Chinese New Year. The performers will meet at couple of recess times during the school day to practise for the performance. Full rehearsal will be held on that week.

The performance will be located in the Courtyard. The stage will be set up on Wednesday Jan 15 after school and rehearsal will be carried on Thursday and Friday (Jan 16~17). So courtyard will be not available during Thus and Fri. No tickets will be required for performances.

Every student will receive a sticker when he/she completes the activity in each classroom. When the students collect 6 or more stickers, they may go to the reception table in the courtyard and receive a small gift. Stickers will be offered to all the teachers later.

4. Game Passport

All the students will get a Game Passport on that night at the RP gate (either on Pri or ECE gate). The room and activity will be clearly indicated on the passport. Once the students have completed the room activity, they may collect a panda sticker (stickers will be handed over to the teachers next week). After they get 8 or more stickers, they can go to the reception table in the courtyard to receive a gift.

At the back of the Passport, there is a QR code for the students, parents and teachers to vote for their favourite bulletin boards and games room on the night. You could also leave feedback for us through that code.

 

5. Secondary students and Y6 Community Service

All the Y6 students and some secondary students volunteering their time to the Games Rooms.

As all the successful events definitely involve everyone’s support, to ensure the event runs smoothly, there are some information we would like to share with you. I will also go through the important information at this Wednesday’s Primary Staff meeting before the Maths PLC PD.

Every student will receive a sticker when he/she completes the activity in each classroom. When the students collect eight or more stickers, they may go to the reception table in the courtyard and receive a small gift.

 

  • CNY Night – Bulletin Boards Design Contest

The Bulletin Board Design Contest will be in evidence outside of the RP campus classrooms. The boards will have eye-catching Chinese New Year displays and will supported by Class Parent Representatives. Boards will be voted by all YCIS students and parents on the CNY Celebration Night. Two winning boards will be selected.

 

  • CNY Night – Taking Fun Photos

There will be ‘Face in the Hole’ photo boards and Chinese costumes to try on in the Auditorium on the 3rd floor.

 

  • CNY Night – Chinese Traditional Snacks

There will be steaming hot snacks sold by Chartwells in the cafeteria. Students, parents and teachers are welcome to experience a bite of traditional Chinese food. The price is generally within the 10-30 RMB range.

The performers have already gotten the tickets from the assigned teachers. For those students who don’t perform, but want to watch the show, they could get 2 tickets from the RP office.

 

2. Game Passport

We will be hosting a Chinese New Year Celebration for all our ECE and Primary students at Regency Park Campus on Friday February 9, 2018 from 6:30pm~8:30pm. To ensure the event runs smoothly, we’d like to ask you to be aware of the following important points:

 

  • Tasks for Class Teachers and Students before 9th Feb

Design and decorate the Bulletin Board – outside your classroom (Y1-Y5)

Design and prepare your class game/activity (Y2-Y5 & Specialist teachers)

 

  • Job List

All the EAL, Learning Support and Y1 & 6 teachers will support a game room on that night.

Class teachers are responsible to contact your class buddy.

All the Year 1 classroom will be used for preparation room for performers.

All the Year 6 students will help teachers to assist in the running of activities on that night.

 

  • Student Performance

Some CCA groups and students will be participating in the performances. Practise times will be held during recess. The final rehearsal will be informed when closer to the date.

The parent letters regarding the event has been sent out, along with the performance letter and Y6 Community Service letter.

Friday November 17, 2017

      

Dear teachers,

We will be hosting a Chinese Culture Day for all our ECE and Primary students at Regency Park Campus on Friday November 17, 2017. Chinese Culture Day gives both the breadth and depth to our students’ learning in Chinese Studies and it has become an exciting annual event for our school. It will be a great day of cultural-related activities for students and teachers to experience the joy and excitement of their host country’s culture.

Please note:

  • Dress Up Day! We are inviting everyone to dress up in Chinese traditional clothes or in red or yellow on Friday November 17.
  • Formal lessons will NOT run on this day. There are 8 featured fun activities for students.
  • Y6 will leave CP to RP at 8:20am. Y6 students will be responsible for organising and running Chinese traditional games for K4 to Y5 students, which is part of their community service learning.
  • Both class co-teachers will be responsible for running the activities and managing the class on that day.
  • We have amended the duty schedule and have assigned EAL and specialist teachers to a class to support co-teachers and provide some release time. Class teachers are responsible to contact your class buddy.
  • CCAs will continue as normal after school.
  • Parents will receive information letter today as well.

During next Wednesday’s whole Primary staff meeting, I will introduce more detailed information and go through the schedule with you. This year is the 10th anniversary of the YCIS Pudong Chinese Handwriting Competition. To help continue to carry forward the traditional Chinese culture, this year’s theme will be “Looking for Chinese Handwriting Masters Around Us”. We hope to continue to stimulate our students’ interest in this traditional custom and help develop their handwriting habits. So in the classroom, students will have the annual Handwriting Competition on April 11 in their Chinese classes. Besides that, we are also inviting all the adults to participate in the activity as well by producing a piece of your Master Chinese Handwriting Work.

Whoever you are; teachers, parents or school staff, you are welcome to join us in this activity. Let’s produce the most beautiful Chinese characters and relish in the charm of it.

Activity

Each piece of our “Masters’ Work” will be displayed in the RP courtyard. Students can walk around and admire the work.

Requirements

  • Within 100 characters (starts from 1 character).
  • No restriction on content or type: Poem, letter, dialogue, sentences or phrases, etc.
  • No restriction on tool: Pencil, pen, calligraphy brush, etc.
  • No restriction on style.
  • Size: A4 paper size,except for calligraphy.

 

Deadline

Please hand your work and enclose a photo of yourself while you were writing to RP Room109, Ms. Sissy Shen by Tuesday, April 11th, or you can send the e-copy and photo to sissys@sh.ycef.com.

Chinese New Year Celebration – January 20, Friday

Chinese New Year and the celebration event are around the corner. Please read through the below information. If you have any questions, feel free to email Sissy or Michelle. Thanks!

1. Performance and Rehearsal 

Please note from Tuesday Jan 17th, the stage will be set up in the gym, and rehearsals will take place. Most rehearsals will take place during Chinese times. However, there will be some other classes affected – please see timetable and performers list attached.

The performers will get the tickets from the Chinese teachers. For those students who don’t perform, but want to watch the show, they could get 2 tickets from the RP office.

 

2. Game Passport

All the students will get a Game Passport on that night at the RP gate (either on Pri or ECE gate). The room and activity will be clearly indicated on the passport. Once the students have completed the room activity, they may collect a panda sticker. After they get 8 or more stickers, they can go to the reception table in the courtyard to receive a gift.

At the back of the Passport, there is a QR code for the students, parents and teachers to vote for their favourite bulletin boards and games room on the night. You could also leave feedback for us through that code.

 

3. Teachers’ Job List

Please check the list carefully with your name, time, room and all the notes.

There will be no ASAs or swimming on that day.

 

4. Y6 Community Service

There are 25 students and 4 staff kids volunteering their time to the Games Rooms.

The list shows the time at which each student volunteers, the room to which they are assigned, and the teacher in charge of their activity.

Please can the Y6 teachers print and cut out the information, and pass to their students to  stick in their diaries to serve as a reminder next week.

 

5. Event Reminder for all students’ Diaries

Please pass out the reminders listed below to all students next week. The reminders include information about the Game Passports, Free Dress Day and charity donation details.

6. Cafeteria

On that night, the cafeteria will sell traditional snacks and food, which cost 15RMB  for each set. Payment for food needs to be made by cash. They are available for teachers as well.

 

7. Friday night’s Schedule

5:00 pm Pizza will arrive (pick-up from Cafeteria)

5:30 pm Room Preparation

5:45 pm Performers will meet the assigned teacher

6:30 pm Performance and Games Room Start

8:30 pm Room Activity finishes & Tidy up

 

All the Chinese year leaders will introduce the information to students at the upcoming Pastoral Assembly.  I will briefly go through all the important information and have Q&A next Wednesday Primary Staff meeting.
