Chinese Culture and Chinese New Year Celebration Week

Week 19 January 13th ~ 17th, 2020

We will be hosting Chinese Culture & Chinese New Year Celebration Week for all our ECE and Primary students at the Regency Park Campus from Monday to Friday on January 13th — 17th, 2020. This event will be a great week of culture related activities, giving students and teachers the opportunity to experience the joy and excitement of the host country’s culture. Formal Chinese Language lessons will not run during this week, as the children will be participating in various cultural activities.

 

This year, for Primary, each year level has their own theme.

  • Y6 Traditional Games

Most of the activities will be run during Chinese and Chinese Studies time, however few classes will be affected, please see the highlight in Yellow. Chinese year leaders will be responsible for booking the bus and rearranging duties when attending CP activities.

  • Chinese New Year Celebration Night

Date: Friday, January 17

Time: 5:30-6:00pm Performance,  6:00-8:00 Games Room

Venue: Regency Park Campus

Please note that there is no any CCAs on Friday, January 17.

Please also be flexible with the games room. For too many people in the corridor to wait, you may start your room 10-15 minutes earlier for safety concerns.

 

  • Game Rooms & Job List on Friday night

ECE, Y1-Y4 class co-teachers and specialist teachers will run activities and will get supporting from one of the EAL/learning support/Y5~Y6 teachers. Here is the job list on the night:

Each room will also have 1 secondary student to support while getting their CAS hours. Y5-6 student council will provide assistance in the gym to support ECE teachers at the night for 1 hour, which will form part of their Community Service Learning.

  • Performance – 5:30

Some CCA student groups, as well as parent volunteers and external folk artists, will be participating in the performances to celebrate Chinese New Year. The performers will meet at couple of recess times during the school day to practise for the performance. Full rehearsal will be held on that week.

The performance will be located in the Courtyard. The stage will be set up on Wednesday Jan 15 after school and rehearsal will be carried on Thursday and Friday (Jan 16~17). So courtyard will be not available during Thus and Fri. No tickets will be required for performances.

  • Game Passport and Gift for the Students

Every student will receive a sticker when he/she completes the activity in each classroom. When the students collect 6 or more stickers, they may go to the reception table in the courtyard and receive a small gift. Stickers will be offered to all the teachers later.

  • Chinese Traditional Snacks

There will be steaming hot snacks sold by Chartwells in the cafeteria. Students, parents and teachers are welcome to experience a bite of traditional Chinese food. The price is generally within the 10-30 RMB range.

  • Dress Up Day – Friday, January 17

Dress Up day will be held on Friday, January 17th for students and staff. We are inviting everyone to dress up in Chinese traditional clothes or in red. We will find 2 outstanding costume on the day for each class and they will be taken professional photos for showing on the school TV. – Free dree up day, No charge

8:00 Free Dress Day and follow the previously issued timetable for the day

9:00-11:00 Performance – Full rehearsal in the courtyard

3:40 pm Whole of ECE Teachers’ Photo time (Courtyard)

4:00 pm Whole Primary Teachers’ Photo time (Courtyard)

4:30 pm Pizza will be provided to all the teachers (Cafeteria)

5:00 pm Pizza will be provided to students volunteers (Cafeteria)

5:00 pm Performers will meet the assigned teachers

5:30 pm Secondary students will meet teachers to prepare rooms
