2023 Chinese Culture Week and Lantern Festival Celebration Day

Week 18 Monday 30th January – Friday 3rd February 

We will be hosting Chinese Culture Week for all our ECE and Primary students from Monday to Friday from Jan 30-Feb 3, 2023. This event is far more than just having fun and celebrating; it will also be a great time to meet after the holiday and explore the different aspects of Chinese culture which will help us gain a greater insight and connection to China. Formal Chinese Language lessons will not run during this week, as the children will be participating in various cultural activities.  

 

  1. Activities throughout the week
  • Most of the activities will be run during Chinese and Chinese Studies time, however Friday will have no regular lessons. Chinese year leaders will be responsible for booking venue as well as change duties in advance when needed.

 

  1. Lantern Festival Celebration Day
  • Date: Friday, February 3rd  
  • Time: Regular school time 

 

Some Highlights of the Celebration Day 

  • Whole Primary Assembly - All the Primary students will have a New Year Theme Assembly in the afternoon. They will review the activities, watch performance provided by our teachers, parents and folk artists and watch the lantern festival view in Yu Garden online to understand more Lantern Festival customs. 
  • Dress Up Day and Parade – We are inviting everyone to dress up in any New Year themed clothes from their home country to celebrate as a community.
  • Game Rooms among each Year Level - The function of the games and activities is to fully engage students with the different  Chinese  cultural themes, including art, handcrafts and games, etc. Students will have the chance to explore various activities in the morning. 
  • Lucky draw - Every student will receive a lottery ticket. They will have the lucky draw while having Chinese tradition snacks in the class. 
  • House competition- Student will visit the courtyard and guess the riddles on the lantern. They will win points for their house if they can get the correct answer. The points will be announced in the Whole Primary Assembly. 
  • Folk Artists- The Folk artists will provide various activities such as clay figurines, candy painting, Chinese calligraphy, bamboo weaving, in the courtyard 8am-11am. All the students from ECE and Primary are going to visit according to the scheduled time.  
  • Y5-6 – will stay at CP to have games room in the morning and enjoy both Secondary performance and Primary assembly via online in the afternoon. Dress up will be the same.

4.  Staff photos on Friday

  • ECE teachers meet in RP Courtyard at 3.30 pm for their group photo 
  • RP Primary Chinese teachers meet in the RP Courtyard at 3.35 pm for the group photo 
  • Everyone in the RP Courtyard at 3.45pm for a full staff photo 
  • CP Y5-6 teachers can take photos after school

 

5. Primary Y1-4 – Class buddy supported by EAL, SS and Specialist teachers (please sign up for your buddy class)

  •  Lantern Festival Celebration Day will be on  Friday,  February 3rd. All the teachers will be involved in the event.
  • In the morning Y1-Y4 will have activities in the classrooms. Class co-teachers are responsible for organizing them. 
  • We would like to invite EAL, Student Supports and Specialist teachers to support the class teachers during that time. Each class will need one teacher to support.
