Chinese Culture and Chinese New Year Celebration Week
Week 20 January 21st ~ 25th, 2019
We will be hosting Chinese Culture & Chinese New Year Celebration Week for all our ECE and Primary students at the Regency Park Campus from Monday to Friday on January 21st — 25th, 2019. This event will be a great week of culture related activities, giving students and teachers the opportunity to experience the joy and excitement of the host country’s culture. Formal Chinese Language lessons will not run during this week, as the children will be participating in various cultural activities.
As all the successful events definitely involve everyone’s support, to ensure the event runs smoothly, there are some information we would like to share with you. I will also go through the important information at this Wednesday’s Primary Staff meeting before the Maths PLC PD.

- Chinese New Year Celebration Night

- CNY Night – Game Rooms & Job List
Each game room will be run by the Y2-Y5 class co-teachers/specialist teachers and supported by one of the EAL/learning support/Y1/ Y6 teachers.
Each room will also have 1 Secondary student to support them while getting their CAS hours.
- CNY Night – Performance
The performance will be located in the Courtyard from 6:00pm. Some CCA student groups, as well as parent volunteers and external folk artists, will be participating in the performances to celebrate Chinese New Year. No tickets will be required this year.
Secondary students will also arrange some interactive activities after the performance.
- CNY Night – Experiencing Traditional Folk Games
Students will have the opportunity to play different traditional Chinese games in the Gym, run by ECE teachers. Year 6 students will provide assistance for the younger students in the gym for half hour, which will form part of their Community Service Learning.
- CNY Night – Game Passport and Gift for the Students
Every student will receive a sticker when he/she completes the activity in each classroom. When the students collect eight or more stickers, they may go to the reception table in the courtyard and receive a small gift.
- CNY Night – Bulletin Boards Design Contest
The Bulletin Board Design Contest will be in evidence outside of the RP campus classrooms. The boards will have eye-catching Chinese New Year displays and will supported by Class Parent Representatives. Boards will be voted by all YCIS students and parents on the CNY Celebration Night. Two winning boards will be selected.
- CNY Night – Taking Fun Photos
There will be ‘Face in the Hole’ photo boards and Chinese costumes to try on in the Auditorium on the 3rd floor.
- CNY Night – Chinese Traditional Snacks
There will be steaming hot snacks sold by Chartwells in the cafeteria. Students, parents and teachers are welcome to experience a bite of traditional Chinese food. The price is generally within the 10-30 RMB range.
- Dress Up Day – Friday, January 25 (whole day)
Dress Up day will be held on Friday, January 25th for students and staff. We are inviting everyone to dress up in Chinese traditional clothes or in red. Please bring 20RMB or more to donate towards the Heart to Heart charity.
- CNY Parents Letters
The parent letters regarding the event will be sent out in the middle of December. Please see the attached letters.

3:40 pm Whole of ECE Teachers’ Photo time (Courtyard)
4:00 pm Whole Primary Teachers’ Photo time (Courtyard)
4:45 pm Pizza will be provided (pick up from Cafeteria)
5:30 pm CCA performers will meet the assigned teachers
5:30 pm Secondary students will meet teachers to prepare rooms
6:00 pm Performance and Games Room Start
8:00 pm Classroom Activity finishes & tidy up (Secondary students support)
**All teachers are expected to be present for photos
**No CCA on this day
- FUN FUN FUN!!! ECE & Primary Staff CNY Song
We will make a CNY Celebration Video by performing a joint song. Everyone is expected to involve.
