Growth

The concept of ‘growth’ began at the beginning of Spring in K4D with potatoes and vegetable seeds being planted. This was a great learning activity on its own, but when the children’s plants began to grow (or not!), it transpired that the children were mostly interested in how much the seedlings were growing (or not).

This, coupled with the transition to Year 1 activities, led to a lot of working theories being presented around the concept of ‘growth’.

We talked about the idea of ‘everything starts out small’ and this led to the children recalling the differences and similarities between them and their younger K3 school buddies who visit us each week.

From there we invited the children to bring in baby photos and this promoted lots of language around growth, change and evolving.
