Best Memory of Hangzhou

“Among all the memories of South Yangtze area, the best one is about Hangzhou.” In spring during March, why not approaching Hangzhou and have a wonderful trip to South Yangtze area?

In Chinese Studies Classes, Year 6 students began their topic study of Hangzhou. Speaking of Hangzhou, what first came into our mind was West Lake with its marvelous landscape. The ten popular scenes around West Lake have attracted thousands of tourists. These scenes include Spring Dawn at Su Causeway, Wine-making Yard and Lotus Pool in Summer, Moon over the Peaceful Lake in Autumn and Melting Snow at Broken Bridge. They display the features of four seasons and are all very unique in styles. No wonder Su-shi wrote his complements about West Lake as “West Lake can be compared to Xizi, fitting for all kinds of make-up and dress-up.”

Beautiful scenes make us enchanted while delicious food can bring us great pleasure. Hangzhou also attracts a large number of tourists for its local food and cuisine. The students were greatly impressed by the story behind Braised Dongpo Pork and West Lake Fish in Vinegar Gravy.

There are plenty of specialties in Hangzhou including silk, fans, Longjin Tea, etc., which have won the favor of tourists. It took more than ten procedures to complete the rib of a delicate silk umbrella. To let students experience the hard work and wisdom of the handicraftsman behind this delicate art, the teacher provided them with little paper umbrellas for them to paint their impression of Hangzhou on them. It still took lots of efforts to draw on the little umbrellas. Every student was quite absorbed in the paining and portray.

In the learning process, the student had a deeper understanding of the beautiful city of Hangzhou. Some of them even wanted to visit the city with their own-made tourist brochures! Their hearts had all flown to the city already. Let’s make advantage of the good spring time to visit Hangzhou and all the magnificent landscape in our country!
