What’s Cooking in K2B?

Many weeks ago, we noticed that friends had shown a deep interest in the the process of making hot chocolate for our special snack during Book Week.  From there many friends began to discuss food they liked to eat and make at home and began cooking with great enthusiasm in our home corner.  We supported this budding interest by enlarging our play cooking space and incorporating real, every day cooking resources and materials.  These included griddles, tongs, ladles, woks, chopsticks, rice, salt, and dry pasta to name a few.  Their interest began to blossom as we read recipe books and invited friends to share photos and videos of themselves cooking at home with their families.  We would like to say a big “Thank You” to Chef Xia for helping us cook all of our handmade recipes and to all of our supportive parents who took the time to contribute to this interest by sending in photos, helping us cut out food images from magazines, sharing with us what their favourite foods were, shopping with their child to buy their favourite fruit to share, and coming to enrich our learning by making blueberry cupcakes, authentic Italian pasta, homemade bread, and dumplings for us in our classroom!  Where will our yummy interest go next?  We can’t wait to see!
