Painting with beans, making sweet lotus root and getting harvest in Chinese Studies Classes

Under teacher’s guidance, Year 6 students started their study on the theme of “Chinese traditional health-preserving”. Through learning, students learned the whole grains and the names of nutrients and different beans. They also mastered some knowledge about health regimen.

As a preliminary exploration of the teaching mode of ‘Learning Communities’, four Year 6 Chinese teachers made full preparation before class. They did lesson planning together but prepared separately. Each of them took a separate teaching task to develop. Students had the opportunity to choose the topic of interest to participate in.

After several classes, students showed their strong interests and enthusiasm. They made a lot of elaborate and beautiful paintings with beans. There were naive panda, lively fish, proud rooster and quaint pavilion, which stand vividly. In addition, all students came to school canteen in batches and learned to make sweet lotus root. On the next day, every student smiled when they tasted the sweet lotus root they had made by themselves.
