Childlike Innocence flying with the Charm of Violin

2018 Year 3 Spring Violin Assembly was successfully held on 26 April, 1:00p.m. at the B Hall of Hongqiao campus. This assembly was a musical banquet for Year 3 students. With the previous three years’ basic violin learning in YCIS, students have gained persistent love and pursuit for high art, they played gorgeous pieces of music with the audience’s praise and applause.

The passionate ‘Violin Song’ kicked off the concert, neat bowing and melodious children’s chorus expressed their enthusiasm for violin playing. ‘We can play most anything’ showed children’s confidence for performance. It was the violin course that gave them confidence, and the audience appreciated the presentations of our YCIS children.

Then ‘Emperor Waltz’ created by Junior John Strauss was performed by class children. With the gorgeous music, it seemed that we have come to the magnificent Austrian palace ball. We were impressed by children’s accurate rhythm control of waltz, as well as their body rhythm with good music sense. While we were still immersed in the music, 9 outstanding Year 3 students performed the violin unison ‘Humoresque’ which was composed by Czech composer Dvorak. The students sometimes played the violin bow fast, sometimes slowly, which embodied the rich musical expression in the romantic period. We were so proud of these students because it was not easy for Year 3 students but their act showed their skills. The Ensemble group formed of Year 2 to Year 6 students played Romanian song ’Spring’, it was also a violin unison but with another kind of feeling. No matter the skills and music, solid basic skills were clearly revealed. Ten people on the stage were like one person, uniformly aligned. The fingers were running at the fingerboard, the precise collision between the bows and strings created such a splendid ‘Spring’, the audience was very excited and the concert was driven to a higher level. Later came the class song’Autumn’, we were so amazed by children’s timbres, marveled at their tones and pleasantly surprised at their expression of music and the continuity of music. We believe all these are due to their effort and hard work. Autumn is the harvest season. Wasn’t this a big harvest for our Year 3 students? Y6 student Zhixian XU, the champion of YCIS, YWIES Young Musicians Music Competition also came to the Assmbly and played his award-winning song ‘Concerto in C major’. His show was the icing on the cake.

Then came the Y6 String quartet. They played ‘Concerto in B major RV580’ for us. They perfectly interpreted the baroque music style. With Ms Lu, the piano teacher’s accompaniment, four performers fully engaged. They had good teamwork. Both their tone and rhythm were fabulous. The audience burst into applause and pushed the Assembly to another climax. Finally, all the Y3 students returned to the stage and played ‘Radetsky March’. The popular melody and the sonorous rhythm brought the Violin Assembly to a happy ending. Each child’s face was filled with a smile. We could feel their unprecedented joy and their longing for the future.

The Violin Assembly ended in a flash, but everyone was still lost in the scene. We hope that the violin will always accompany our children!
