Playground Safety

Thanks everyone for your input into this on Wednesday, Please remember to organise times when each class/year level goes down to the play areas (including the play structure, fountain, steps, sand pit), and emphasize the points that were discussed at the meeting. Specifically:

Swings

  • How to sit on ropes:
    • Students sit facing back to back for older kids, holding on to ropes or
    • Students sit facing each other knee to knee, holding on to the net.
  • Do not push the swing from the sides – only form the back
  • Show how high the swings should go (A marker will be placed on the post for highest limit-10 cm above the silver square).
  • No holding onto the swing when pushing (pusher keeps feet glued to ground)
  • Swing must stop before children get on/off
  • No dangly legs
  • 2 people at a time only
  • 1 pusher only

Play structure

  • No tag
  • No running up slides the wrong way
  • Only Years 4-5 students on the tallest apparatus

Bicycles

  • No bicycles after school on track as no supervision, as some go around the track too fast (tricycles at recess time is ok)

Long Jump Pit

  • Out of bounds after school

Fountain/steps area

  • should not be played on at all.

The main thing to get across to the students is after school – the same rules apply. When the letter regarding active supervision is sent next week to parents, it would be good to run through the rules/expectations with them. It is the stduents’ responsibility to make sure that they follow the rules. If any year levels or classes would like a member of the CLT present, then please let us know.
