Year 11 – Above and Beyond Expectation in the Philippines

Written by: Chris Perks, School Chaplain (YCIS Shanghai) and Seeds of Hope Coordinator (Mainland China)

What an amazing, diverse, intense and fun time we had with the Y11 Students at KIM (Kids International Ministries) in the Philippines. There was so much to do, so much to absorb and process, and so much to reflect on, as we embraced and put “Love and Charity” into practice.

This is what the trip participants had to say:

It was an eye-opening experience for me as I got to take in the culture and the way of living of people in rural Philippines. I realized how impactful my actions were during this trip, and this made the trip very memorable and relevant. Oufan Li

The pregnancy clinic was an extraordinary experience for me. I especially loved  inputting information onto the computer and hearing the heartbeat of the babies. Hui Shing Chong

My highlight of this trip was mixing with the students from Cuatro Christian School. Especially on Friday when we danced and did Zumba with them. The students and everyone were extremely nice and open to talk. I was very moved. Ann Huang

Throughout the trip I have learnt a lot of good information that is helpful in real life. Saveliy Kazbekov

One of the girls was so proud of herself after Pastor Nick said that the wall wouldn’t be as high if we hadn’t been there. She said “Ms. Hoel, I built that wall!” It was so great to see them taking pride in their work, especially work they were not used to.  Jamie Hoel – Primary Learning Resource Teacher

2018 Seeds of Hope Philippines was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my whole life. This trip taught me more than what I can learn from books: how to give back and contribute to the community; that helping kids and other people really makes the people around you and yourself happy. It was a terrific and educational trip.Wu Yuchung (Troy)

The school will continue to support the KIM project in the Philippines and many other students and staff will have the opportunity to visit and have these types of lasting memories.
